This dynamic, evidence-informed training is designed for SLPs and SLPAs (both new to the field and not) seeking to better support their neurodivergent clients – specifically autistic learners – through a strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming lens.
Participants will explore how to foster authentic, meaningful communication by prioritizing sensory regulation, engagement, and individual learning styles. Emphasis is placed on understanding communication as a collaborative, child-led process, whether through speech, AAC, or alternative forms of expression.
Through engaging case studies and real-world examples, learners will see how these principles apply to children ages 18 months to 8 years.
The course also reviews the stages of gestalt language processing. Participants will have access to a sample strengths-based assessment report, sample goals, 3 parent friendly handouts, and an initial session observation worksheet.
